Hoax theory, the most well known theory, suggests that all the Crop Circles are created by the humans on purpose.  In September 1991, when the people’s attention in Crop Circles grew higher and higher, two English retiree Doug Bower and Dave Chorley announced that all the Crop Circles discovered were created by them in order to “fool the people into thinking that UFOs had landed” (Alex).  They proved their claim by successfully demonstrating the creation a Crop Circle similar to other found Crop Circles only using wooden planks and string. However, the cerealogists argued that it is hard to believe only two people created over hundreds of Crop Circles (Alex).  After the revelation of Doug and Dave, many other hoaxers started to claim their responsibility in creation of Crop Circles, making the exact number of man made Crop Circles unclear.  Crop Circle researcher Colin Andrew reveals a way to distinguish man made Crop Circles from the Crop Circles that were created by the nature or supernatural forces (Pantherfile).  He explains that the “fake” Crop Circles have foot prints that were leaved by hoaxers. Also, the way the crops are bent is different, not sharing the same characteristics (Pantherfile).
